PR Card

09

Jul

In order to have permanent residence in Canada or PR Canada, you must obtain immigration in one of the following ways. Methods such as Skilled Worker, Investment and Marriage, etc. Once you receive a PR visa, your PR status will be activated from the day you enter Canada, and you will be resident in Canada for 5 years from that day. You will receive your PR card a few weeks after arriving in Canada. During these 5 years, you can enter Canada with this card and without a visa.

Note that when you first arrive in Canada with a permanent residence visa, you will be addressed at the airport and the PR card will be mailed to the same address. It is possible to change this address, but in some cases, due to system problems, etc., you will not be able to change the address, and your PR card will be sent to the same address. Another important point about issuing a PR card is that the photo you sent when you issued the visa with your passport will be stamped on the PR card, and if this photo is defective for any reason, you will be asked for a new photo with the photographer’s profile. And send the photo date on the back to the Immigration Office again.

Is it possible to leave Canada before issuing a PR card?

Answer: Yes, it is possible. You do not need a PR card to leave Canada, but you will need a PR card to re-enter Canada! If you do not have a PR card with you to re-enter for any reason, you must apply for a Travel Document, which you can apply through the Canadian Embassy in Turkey, and it will take a few weeks and you will have to pay for it. We recommend that you carefully protect your PR card and do not leave Canada without your PR card as much as possible.

Another important question is what are the benefits of permanent residence? In short, having a permanent residence card in Canada is exactly like a Canadian citizen and has all the rights of a citizen, except in three cases:

Can’t vote in Canadian elections

does not have a Canadian passport

Enter Canada to apply for citizenship.

How can a person who has a permanent residence card in Canada renew or become a citizen?

To renew your PR card, you must meet the following conditions:

You must be in Canada for at least 2 years for every 5 years. Note that you must follow this in each 5-year period.

For example, if you entered Canada on January 1, 2015 and entered PR and left Canada on January 1, 2017, you have completed 2 years and have a permanent residence until the end of 2019. However, if the same person who left Canada on January 1, 2017, has his or her next entry on January 1, 2021, the officer can prevent him or her from entering Canada because he or she has not been in Canada for the past 4 years and cannot be eligible for 2 years at a time. Observe the 5-year period. You have to be very careful about that.

Of course, there are exceptions that you can be outside of Canada for a period of 2 years. For example, if your spouse is a Canadian citizen and lives outside of Canada, that period will be considered for you. Or work as a PR employee for Canadian government agencies and work full-time outside of Canada. In this case, you have been out of Canada for some time.

Don’t commit serious and dangerous crimes.

Note: It is not possible to request an extension of the PR card from outside Canada. You must be in Canada to be able to apply for an extension of your PR card (if you meet the renewal requirements).

To convert a PR card to citizenship, in short, you must have been in Canada for at least 3 years in the last 5 years. For details, read the following link:
